Welcome to the Wiseburn Unified School District, a vibrant and diverse K-12 educational district in the heart of Los Angeles County. We proudly serve the communities of Hollyglen, Del Aire, Wiseburn, and part of El Segundo, fostering a commitment to academic excellence, social responsibility, and personal growth in our student population.

Our History

Established in the early 20th century, the Wiseburn Unified School District has a long-standing tradition of providing quality education. Our journey through the decades reflects our adaptability and resilience, peaking at 2,900 pupils in the 1960s, weathering a decline to 1,100 in the 1980s, and then rebounding to currently serve nearly 4,500 students across four district schools, two programs, and five independent charter schools.

Our Location and Reach

Centrally located south of Los Angeles International Airport and a stone's throw away from the Pacific Ocean, Wiseburn USD benefits from both an ideal climate and robust transportation infrastructure. The district is conveniently intersected by the Century and San Diego Freeways and the Green Line Metrorail, offering easy access to various major employment centers.

Our Schools and Programs

Each of our nine schools—four district schools and five independent charter schools—offers a unique blend of curriculum, focusing on fostering creativity, critical thinking, and a passion for lifelong learning in our students. Our Community

Our district is home to a richly diverse student body, mirroring the multicultural fabric of California. With a demographic composition of Multiracial (6%), Asian (6%), Caucasian (17%), African-American (15%), and Latino (56%) pupils, we celebrate this diversity as one of our greatest strengths. Dedicated Staff

At Wiseburn Unified School District, our staff are the cornerstone of our success. We are proud to have a committed team of over 360 individuals, each bringing their unique talents and dedication to our learning community.

Our team is comprised of 10 administrative employees who steer our vision and manage daily operations, ensuring a seamless learning environment for our students. Providing exceptional education, our 150 certificated staff members are the backbone of our classrooms, guiding students' learning journeys with a passion for their growth and development.

In addition, we have around 50 full-time classified employees who form the integral support network for our school system. From providing essential services to managing school resources, their dedication helps our schools run efficiently every day.

To further enrich our students' experiences, we employ approximately 200 part-time classified employees. This dedicated team offers an array of services, from extracurricular programs to special education support, catering to the diverse needs of our students.

Our team is supplemented by many part-time support personnel, whose contributions in various areas help us maintain our high standards of education. Whether it's health services, food services, or technical support, every team member plays a vital role in our commitment to delivering a comprehensive and quality educational experience.

Unification and the Charter School Partnership

On November 5, 2013, a significant event in our 121-year history transpired – Wiseburn voters emphatically approved the formation of the Wiseburn Unified School District. For the first time, Wiseburn offered a seamless and well-articulated K-12 program for the Wiseburn and the broader South Bay community. This historic decision enabled us to present an innovative approach to K-12 education through a unique partnership with Da Vinci Schools.

A Unique District-Charter Partnership

Wiseburn Unified School District and Da Vinci Schools embarked on a creative district-charter partnership model that is unique in public education. Our alliance is built on the pillars of collaboration, trust, integrity, and mutual support, with a singular focus on what is in the best interests of all students and families we serve. We subscribe to the principle that when adults work in harmony, we can accomplish much more for our children.

Expansion and Innovation

In August 2009, we unveiled two 9-12 Charter Schools – Da Vinci Science and Da Vinci Design. This move gave Wiseburn families access to high school options for the first time. Following this, Da Vinci Innovation Academy, now known as Da Vinci Connect, was launched in 2011 to provide K-8 families with two unique learning models that integrate homeschool instruction with school-based learning.

Da Vinci Communications, founded in 2013, became a recipient of the prestigious Next Generation Learning Challenges grant, generously funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates and The William and Flora Hewlett Foundations. To further broaden our educational offerings, Da Vinci Extension’s college pathway program, launched in 2015, builds on the success of the Da Vinci Schools’ K-12 program. It offers a blended approach to college, career, and life skills to support students in their journey to adulthood.

Da Vinci Schools: Real-world Education

Da Vinci Design, Da Vinci Communications, and Da Vinci Science provide a real-world, college and career curriculum in a safe, supportive, and community-centered environment. Our focus on real-world, project-based learning, career pathways, extensive industry and higher education partnerships, strong community ties, and accessibility for all are the hallmarks of the Da Vinci model.

These schools serve as the "home" high schools for Wiseburn Unified School District, and Wiseburn residents are guaranteed a placement at one of these schools. Over the first ten years, Da Vinci Schools have grown into one of the finest and most highly sought-after high school options in the South Bay and beyond.
