In the field of Mathematics, both students and parents are provided with a range of resources aimed at accessing educational standards effectively. Great Minds Eureka Math^2® serves as a Prekindergarten through Grade 5 program specifically designed to promote equity within the mathematics classroom. This program includes a comprehensive array of print and digital materials, alongside math manipulatives, which cater to diverse learning needs. For students in Grades 6-8, the curriculum utilizes College Preparatory Math (CPM), fostering engagement and challenging every learner. Furthermore, elementary students benefit from the online Spatial Temporal Math (ST Math) platform, which enhances their comprehension of mathematical concepts.

Our elementary educators employ Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) strategies and continually refine their teaching methodologies through dedicated collaborative time (TCT). These collaborative efforts maximize the effectiveness of these essential approaches to math instruction, ensuring optimal learning outcomes for students.

At the middle school level, qualified students in Grades 7 and 8 have access to accelerated math courses, complemented by IXL Mathematics online resources during the school's 'POD' advisory period, further supporting their mathematical development.

English Language Arts materials and resources for kindergarten through fifth grade include McGraw-Hill's Wonders. In addition, all elementary teachers utilize Writers Workshop to increase student voice and choice and encourage young authors to grow their writing skills. In grades 6-8, students are fully engaged with Writers Workshop further supported by NewsELA and NoRedInk online programs. Middle school teachers continue to study Readers Workshop strategies focusing on a student-centered approach to reading instruction that fosters a love of reading, helps students develop important reading skills, and promotes critical thinking and collaboration. All programs are blended and offer print and digital resources as well as integrated English Language Development standards and lessons. Accelerated reader is available to all students throughout the district as part of our plan to promote literacy and a love of reading.

In science, Kindergarten through grade 5 teachers are bringing the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) to students through the newly adopted Elevate Science series (K-5). At the middle school , the STEMScopes online program was adopted in 2022 and has provided out of the box thinking and activities for our students. Hands-on learning is the focus of science instruction as students engage in experimentation and exploration through science lessons.

In the area of social studies, WUSD teachers in grades K-8 continue to follow the California State History-Social Science Framework with teachers at the middle school planning collaboratively each month to design interactive and rigorous lessons for students. Students participate in special activities on campus that promote a deeper understanding of different traditions, cultures, and the influence of trade and migration in relation to the study of social studies.
