Welcome to the start of a new school year at Wiseburn Unified School District!

The start time for classes is based on input from families regarding schedules with drop off, work, and so on. Each school provides breakfast 20 to 30 minutes prior to the start of classes and each school also offers a childcare option through the Right at School program for those needing an earlier drop off.

Our elementary site bell schedule reflects an early dismissal time every Wednesday which the middle school does not. The middle school bell schedule reflects more minutes per year than does the schedule for elementary grades.

If the student is a new resident student, then yes, the parent/caretaker should contact the previous school that their child is not returning.

If the student is a new student that filled out an interdistrict permit application, and the application has been approved by Wiseburn Unified School District, then yes, the parent/caretaker should contact the previous school that their child is not returning.

If the student is a new student that filled out an interdistrict permit application, and the application has NOT been approved by Wiseburn Unified School District, then NO, the parent should NOT contact the previous school that their child is not returning. The parent/caretaker should wait until they hear from WUSD and keep their child enrolled at their current school.

If the student is a resident or a permit student, then there is a section on both the applications for parent to upload a current report card. The Wiseburn school office managers will request the student’s cumulative files from the student’s previous school.

Del Aire: Backpacks, lunch boxes, and pencil boxes should all be labeled. Please wait for teacher directions for all other materials.

Hollyglen: Having a name on a child’s personal supplies and clothing is great (jackets, backpacks, and water bottles especially). Supplies being donated for classroom use do not need a name.

Aviation: Students will learn more about any supplies/directions needed from teachers at school.

At Del Aire: There are two options for dismissal. Valet area is for parents who wish to stay in their cars. Walker area is for parents who prefer to walk up. 1st -5th all use the same two dismissal areas.

At Hollyglen: 2nd graders will be dismissed at the 134th St. gate, off the playground.

Students will receive detailed instructions from their team of teachers during the first week of school. We do encourage students to arrive with something to write with (pencil and pen) and a notebook to write in.

Students will be provided their schedules and class assignments on the first day of class, August 27.

Students may bring cellphones to school, but phones must remain in their backpacks during school hours (8:30 – dismissal bell) and should be turned off or on silent mode. Cell phones may not be turned on during the school day.

Our 6th grade "Where Everyone Belongs" (WEB) orientation is on Monday, August 19 at 1:00 p.m. This event provides students a chance to meet other 6th grade students, connect with 8th grade mentors, and get their schedule. Students will report to our gymnasium. WEB leaders will be on hand to help direct students.

6th Grade Orientation

Here at Wiseburn Middle School, we know 6th grade is such a special year, but a big transition. We also know that our students do well through continued teacher support and partnership with families.

So to help with this transition, we are hosting our 6th grade "Where Everyone Belongs" (WEB) orientation on Monday, August 19 at 1:00 p.m. WEB is a middle school transition program that welcomes 6th graders and makes them feel comfortable throughout the first year of their middle school experience. This event is important and provides students a chance to meet other 6th grade students, connect with 8th grade mentors, and get their schedule. Students will report to our gymnasium. WEB leaders will be on hand to help direct students.

Summer Reading

Just as our 7th and 8th graders must do, our incoming 6th graders must complete their summer reading. To fulfill the basic requirement of the summer reading assignment all students must earn 10 AR points. Note: Completing the summer reading requirement will be counted as an English grade in September.

If the student/family has completed the registration process, the incoming 6th graders will receive their schedule at orientation on Monday, August 19, which starts at 1:00 p.m. If not, the student will report to campus on the first day of school, Tuesday, August 27, and report to their homeroom, where they will receive their schedule.

Picture day is Monday, September 9, and takes place during students’ PE class.

Students cannot request a change of elective within the first two weeks of school. Following the first two weeks, a request may be submitted and will be considered, but not necessarily approved. Each academic quarter, our counselors work to find optimal class placements for each student, so we encourage students to discuss any concerns with a counselor.

The middle school counselors will determine what the best fit is for the student based on class availability and past academic progress. Should a student wish to switch an elective, they can submit a request for consideration.

Middle schoolers will receive their schedules and POD room assignment on the first day of school, August 27. Students will arrive to campus and report to their homeroom, which they can locate using the posted lists on campus. Once they arrive in their homeroom, they will receive their full schedules. Teachers and staff will be on hand to help direct students to their POD rooms and classes.

Yes, there is a zero period for P.E. This class is already full, and was only open to 7th and 8th graders. Refer to a counselor during the school year to learn more about zero period.
