Returning Interdistrict Permit

No. All students currently attending a Wiseburn school on an interdistrict permit can remain in Wiseburn until they leave or graduate from 8^th grade, provided they reply to the Verification of Continuing Enrollment notice annually and uphold appropriate standards of behavior and attendance.

Students who currently attend school in Wiseburn must verify that they are returning to Wiseburn for the following school year by replying to the Verification of Continuing Enrollment notice that families will receive in January.

Students are not required to reapply for an interdistrict permit release from their school of residence under Assembly Bill 2444 that was passed on September 24, 2010. AB 2444 states that if your child is currently enrolled in the district of attendance (Wiseburn) as a permit student, you do NOT have to reapply for his/her release permit from your district of residence for him/her to continue enrollment in the district of attendance (Wiseburn) - this is Wiseburn's interpretation of AB 2444 and most school districts.

However, Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD)’s interpretation of AB 2444 is that students who have a valid permit to attend a specific school may continue attendance in that same school without the need to re-apply annually to the district of residence or attendance. When the student matriculates, or there is a change of school placement, regardless if it is in the same school district of attendance, a new permit is required.

Until further notice from Wiseburn, ONLY LAUSD families need to re-apply for the release permit only if your child is a current Del Aire or Aviation 5th grader going to Wiseburn Middle for the 2024-2025 school year.

Yes, if you recently moved out of your current resident school district to another school district, then you will need to obtain a new release permit from the new school district. You will need to provide a copy to the Enrollment Outreach Coordinator at enrollment@wiseburn.org.
