May 2021 Letter from the Superintendent

Wiseburn families and friends,

The days are longer, the weather is warming up, and we are excited to see more and more students on our campuses for various activities. We’re continuing to operate our hybrid and distance learning models of instruction, while maintaining our health and safety protocol.

While signs are hopeful in the fight against COVID-19, we are still in a pandemic, and must continue to be vigilant in our schools and in the community to maintain the reduced spread of the virus. At Wiseburn, we also continue to monitor all recommendations from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, especially related to the variants and transmission rates across the county.

If we continue to see similar COVID-19 conditions in late summer, we do anticipate a full return to in-person learning for our students in the upcoming school year. The full return would include any safety precautions directed by local health officials, which have so far kept COVID-19 from spreading on our campuses. As details solidify, we will share more information with our families.

In the meantime, we are continuing to make preparations for our upcoming summer school and to refocus efforts on our renaming process for 138th St. School. More information is forthcoming and will be shared during our upcoming regularly scheduled school board meeting on May 13 at 7 p.m. via Zoom (Zoom link: bit.ly/wusd-board0513).

We’re also making preparations for our preschool program. We know our families need this program, and regret that we had to close our doors during the height of the pandemic. The process to reopen and secure state licensing continues to be impacted by COVID-19, leaving our estimate for a return date at July 1, 2021. However, our new facility is coming along nicely and we are finalizing some of the infrastructure needs in the meantime. The final step in the process is state licensing, and we have been coordinating with them along the way to expedite our ability to return. Wiseburn will offer both full day and part-day options for our families and look forward to providing the quality educational and social-emotional experience that is consistent with all of our programs in Wiseburn. We will share more information in the coming weeks.

As the end of the school year quickly approaches, we wish all of our students, families, and teachers a strong finish. It’s been challenging, but I look forward to continuing to see the positive momentum and resilience our students, staff, and community have demonstrated throughout the year.

Familias y amigos de Wiseburn,

Los días son más largos, el clima se está calentando y estamos orgullosos de ver más estudiantes en nuestros campus para diversas actividades. Continuamos operando nuestros modelos de instrucción híbridos y de aprendizaje a distancia, mientras mantenemos nuestro protocolo de salud y seguridad.

Si bien las señales son positivas en la lucha contra el COVID-19, todavía estamos en una pandemia y debemos seguir vigilantes en nuestras escuelas y en la comunidad para mantener la propagación reducida del virus. En Wiseburn, también continuamos monitoreando todas las recomendaciones del Departamento de Salud Pública del Condado de Los Ángeles, especialmente las relacionadas con las variantes y las tasas de transmisión en todo el condado.

Esperamos ver condiciones similares de COVID-19 durante el verano y por eso anticipamos un regreso completo al aprendizaje en persona para nuestros estudiantes en el próximo año escolar. La reapertura completa incluiría cualquier precaución de seguridad dirigida por los funcionarios de salud locales, que hasta ahora han evitado que COVID-19 se propague en nuestros campus.. A medida que los detalles se solidifiquen, compartiremos más información con nuestras familias.

Mientras tanto, continuamos con los preparativos para nuestra próxima escuela de verano y enfocamos los esfuerzos en nuestro proceso de cambio de nombre para la escuela 138th St. Próximamente vamos a compartir más información durante nuestra próxima reunión de la junta escolar programada regularmente el 13 de mayo a las 7 p.m. a través de Zoom (enlace de Zoom: bit.ly/wusd-board0513).

También estamos preparando nuestro programa preescolar. Sabemos que nuestras familias necesitan este programa y lamentamos haber tenido que cerrar nuestras puertas durante la pandemia. El proceso para reabrir y asegurar las licencias estatales continúa siendo afectado por COVID-19, dejando nuestra estimación para una fecha de regreso el 1 de julio de 2021. Sin embargo, nuestra nueva instalación está avanzando bien y estamos finalizando algunas de las necesidades de infraestructura. El paso final del proceso es la concesión de licencias estatales, y estamos coordinando con ellos a lo largo del camino para acelerar nuestra capacidad de regresar. Wiseburn ofrecerá opciones de día completo y de medio día para nuestras familias y espera brindar la experiencia educativa y socioemocional de calidad que sea consistente con todos nuestros programas en Wiseburn. A medida que se acerca rápidamente el final del año escolar, les deseamos a todos nuestros estudiantes, familias y maestros un buen final. Ha sido un desafío, pero espero seguir viendo el impulso positivo y la capacidad de recuperación que nuestros estudiantes y nuestra comunidad han demostrado durante todo el año.
