Our Commitment to Safety

Per our district pillars, Wiseburn prioritizes safety for all stakeholders on our campuses. Our all-encompassing health and safety protocols draw upon the best practices, recommendations, and required directives of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, in order to maintain the health and safety of our students, staff, families, and community at large. Below, you'll find our plans for safe and healthy practices for in-person services and learning.

Overview

In order to maintain the health and safety of our students, staff, and community amid the continuous threat of COVID-19 and other viruses, we will employ health and safety protocols as advised by public health officials to prevent and mitigate the spread of COVID-19. The directives of our public health officials continually evolve based on public health data to ensure schools prevent transmission most effectively while also reducing undue impacts to student instruction.

Masks

  • In line with guidance from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, masks are strongly recommended but not required indoors or outdoors on our campuses.
  • Wiseburn continues to offer upon request, for voluntary use, well-fitting medical masks and respirators to school employees who work indoors and are in contact with others.

Ventilation

  • COVID-19 spreads through the air. To combat COVID-19, the CDC, recommends using filtered ventilation systems.
  • In March 2021, we installed state-of-the-art air purifier systems that are connected to our current HVAC systems in all 150 classrooms, office spaces, and multi-use rooms.
  • These air purifiers are similar to those used to disinfect air in airplanes, and they will be active and providing continuous disinfection in our classrooms.
  • Our HVAC systems are routinely maintained. Air filters on air conditioning units will be replaced every three months.

Vaccines

  • Vaccination against COVID-19 is strongly recommended for all students and staff.
  • COVID-19 vaccines are now available for anyone 6 months and older. The vaccines are safe and effective at preventing serious illness from COVID-19. Parents and guardians can protect children from getting very sick from COVID-19 by following the vaccine schedule for children and making sure they are
    up-to-date on vaccines and boosters.
    • To learn more about COVID-19 vaccines and to schedule an appointment, visit VaccinateLACounty.com or call the COVID-19 information line at (833) 540-0473 from 8 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. seven days a week.
COVID-19 test

COVID-19 Testing

Used in conjunction with other mitigation strategies, regular COVID-19 testing provides an additional tool to support a safe and successful in-person instruction, allowing for early identification of cases and preventing transmission.

Wiseburn will have a cache of rapid COVID-19 tests available on our school sites for testing of symptomatic and exposed individuals. Please note, per guidelines from LADPH, the District will utilize the rapid antigen tests in lieu of on-campus PCR testing.

For additional COVID-19 testing options, please see the Los Angeles County Health Services COVID-19 testing webpage.

Exposure Management

Testing: COVID-19 testing permits us to identify individuals with COVID-19 to prevent further spread on site. Testing also allows sites to bring participants and staff back safely from isolation after an initial positive COVID-19 test. See COVID-19 Testing for more information.

Isolation for COVID-19 Cases and Instructions for Close Contacts: Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 must follow Public Health’s COVID-19 Isolation Instructions and notify their close contacts. Individuals who have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, or are close contacts, must follow the COVID-19 Instructions for Close Contacts.

Reporting COVID-19 cases to DPH: Sites are required to notify Public Health of all individuals with COVID-19 who were on site in the 14 days before they became ill (the date of symptom onset or the date of the COVID-19 positive test, whichever is earlier). If there are 3 or more COVID-19 cases identified at the site within a span of 14 days, Wiseburn reports the cluster, and Public Health investigates to determine if an outbreak has occurred. See the TK-12 Exposure Management Plan and TK-12 Schools COVID-19 Toolkit for more information.
