Wiseburn Unified School District

Planning for next year's full reopening

Wiseburn families and friends,

We have been thrilled to see the safe return of some of our students this year, while also continuing our distance learning efforts. As we look ahead to the fast-approaching end of the school year and beginning of next year, we wanted to share our latest updates on our operations so that our families and community can plan ahead.

During Thursday evening's school board meeting, the WUSD school board supported the district's staff recommendation to maintain the current schedules, teacher assignments, and cohorts through the end of this year. This allows us to keep students with their current teachers, to maintain the choice of distance learning and hybrid learning for our families, to continue prioritizing safety using our effective COVID-19 mitigation policies, and ultimately to minimize further disruptions to our students, staff, and families.

Looking ahead to next year, we are planning for a full-scale reopening. This means that, provided that it remains safe to do so, we intend to bring back all of our students. Current rates of COVID-19 transmission in the county are minimal as defined by the California Department of Public Health, and if they remain so at the beginning of the 2021-22 school year, we are planning for and intend to reopen fully for in-person instruction as permitted. We are all expecting a much more "normal" school experience for our students next year. We understand that some families may choose to continue distance learning and we will have a limited option for this as well. More information is forthcoming as we continue to plan.

Our return may maintain some of our current COVID-19 safety protocols, such as wearing masks, our rigorous school sanitization and disinfection efforts, and maintaining our "Stay Home When Sick" policy. We will be communicating what students can expect as we approach the 2021-22 school year and gather additional information and updates from local, state, and federal health officials.

In the meantime, families can begin making preparations for childcare, as Right at School is now open for before and after school care registration for summer and the 2021-2022 school year. Enrollment is available online 24/7 with Right At School's parent portal. Check out Right at School's recently-released Summer Activity Calendar, then visit rightatschool.com/program-finder to find your school and sign up today.

By summer, we also aim to have our preschool program back up and running. As we shared previously, we know our families need this program, and we are planning a start date of July 1, 2021. Wiseburn will offer both full day and part-day options for our families. To register, follow the instructions on our website.

We thank you for your continued patience, and look forward to a full reopening in the fall!
