Dear Wiseburn Families and Friends,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a restful, relaxing winter break and is ready to embark on another great year in Wiseburn.
As our students and families make their return on January 3, you may notice some improvements to some of our facilities, including a repair to our Dana baseball and softball field, a new slurry seal to the 138th St. School blacktop, and new brackets for students to hang backpacks on at Anza. Our incredible facilities team was hard at work over the break working on these projects. There is so much pride that goes into maintaining such amazing facilities, and it shows in everything they do.
In Wiseburn this year, we're looking forward to the next steps related to Measure EE, our $98M bond. As you may know, Measure EE passed this past election and will provide funding for our schools across Wiseburn Unified School District, allowing us to continue providing the highest quality education for all students.
We’re committed to transparency in all matters related to Measure EE funding and spending. We want you to know how your tax dollars are being spent so that you can feel confident about them going into your student's classroom. As part of this effort, we will be forming an oversight committee of parents/caretakers, staff, and community members. This committee will be tasked with ensuring funds raised through Measure EE are spent correctly according to its intent: maintaining educational excellence, now and into the future at Wiseburn Unified School District schools. We will be forming this committee in the next month or so and will release the application and process within the coming weeks.
As we begin a bright new year, I encourage you to have a conversation with your student(s) about their goals for school and what they've been working on lately. This is a great time to review student progress to date, but even more important to set goals for the upcoming second semester. These are important and meaningful conversations that can happen to support student progress during the second half of the school year. If there are any concerns you have about how your child is doing, please feel free to contact your student’s teacher(s), your school’s counseling team, or other resources as needed. We are all here for your students so they can learn and grow throughout the year.
Now is also a good time to do an electronics check. Experts suggest that parents/caretakers familiarize themselves with the devices, programs, and social applications their children use. This review can be a critical learning opportunity for parents, and also provides a teachable moment about the safe use of technology. This activity not only helps our students at home, but also supports safe schools. With so much access to technology, our students’ use of various platforms may directly impact student wellness and safety on our campuses. Feel free to reach out to school teams directly should you have any questions or need support.
We have a truly great year ahead of us here in Wiseburn. I hope each of you have an amazing first week back after the holidays and an excellent 2023!
