Dear Wiseburn Families and Friends,
I hope each of you had a great spring break and that the return to school has been healthy and rewarding.
It is hard to imagine that we are in the final stage of the school year. However, there is still much to do to close out the year strong, and I recommend that our families discuss academic performance with and ask about the social emotional wellbeing of our students. There is time to be diligent and set some end-of-year goals and to be sure students are prepared for tasks that will be required of them in the weeks ahead.
This month, the District will administer the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress test to all students in grades 3 - 8. You can find details about state testing and on the best way to prepare for the exam here, but some tried and true practices of eating well and getting a good night sleep are invaluable to students’ positive performance — during testing and beyond. Ultimately, I know our students are well prepared and will fare well in all aspects of the end of the school year. I have been impressed with our entire school community all year long.
Through the challenging and ongoing response to the pandemic, we are beginning to see some markers of normalcy in our community. Namely, this past weekend we welcomed back Rock Around the Block in-person! I was particularly excited for the return of Rock Around the Block in anticipation of hearing all of our students show off their musical talents. I watched them with tremendous enthusiasm and pride, and I am so proud of our students and their teachers for sharing such a treasured event with us. Please join me in extending a very sincere thank you to the volunteers with the Wiseburn Education Foundation as they are true partners and contributors to our District. Rock Around the Block is an event that culminates hours and hours of preparation and more than a year of planning and committing to the programs in Wiseburn. Thank you!
In addition, May marks the month of appreciation for our teachers and support staff. It takes a team to educate our children and everyone’s role is instrumental in the success of our students. Our support staff is the best in the business and keeps our schools running smoothly, cleanly, safely, and beautifully. They facilitate the effective learning environment our District is known for, while our teachers round out the quality of education. Our educators truly never cease to impress. Adaptability and commitment to our young people are treasured trademarks of our teaching force. Despite restrictions and protocols, our classrooms were centers of inspiration and curiosity and our students excelled despite the obstacles, despite the pandemic. I hope the entire community joins me in recognizing our excellent teachers and what they do everyday to engage our students in learning and to be sure students leave more knowledgeable and more fulfilled.
On April 26, 2022, State Superintendent, Tony Thurmmond, released the list of districts and schools in California that are recognized for providing Pivotal Practices in light of the pandemic. I am excited to amplify that Wiseburn Unified School District and all the schools within, are among the institutions being recognized. This further highlights the fact that our community support, fantastic students, great teachers, and dedicated support staff provide so many important ingredients that make for a wonderful educational environment.
