Board Member Compensation Disclosure

Wiseburn Board of Trustees receive no compensation.
They perform all services to the Wiseburn community as volunteers.

Nelson Martinez
Nelson Martinez  ·  President  ·  2005 - Present

Mr. Nelson Martinez is a long-time Del Aire resident and he attended Wiseburn schools as a student, graduating from both Anza Elementary and Dana Middle School. Mr. Martinez is a Senior Project Manager with a school construction management firm. He has volunteered as an Aviation Little League Baseball coach in Del Aire, following his own participation in that league, as well as AYSO, as a player. Mr. Martinez is married to Helen and has two young sons who will in time attend Wiseburn schools. He is eagerly looking forward to serving on the Board of Trustees and contributing to the Wiseburn community.

Roger Banuelos
Roger Bañuelos  ·  Vice President/Clerk  ·  2009 - Present

Mr. Bañuelos has lived in the Wiseburn Community for nearly twenty-two years. He and his wife have four sons, all of which attended and have promoted from Wiseburn K-8 schools. Their two oldest sons graduated from Da Vinci Science and are currently enrolled at UC Santa Barbara and UC Berkeley. Their two youngest sons are currently enrolled at Da Vinci Science with one a Senior and the other a Freshman.

Roger is proud of the community in which he lives and believes in volunteering to make it better and stronger. Some of the local organizations and committees he has devoted his time to are:

  • Board Member – Wiseburn Education Foundation
  • Board Member Representative – Los Angeles County School Trustees Association (LACSTA)
  • Board Member Representative – Los Angeles County Committee on School District Organization
  • Past Chairman – Wiseburn School District Citizen's Oversight Committee
  • Coach and Parent Volunteer – AYSO Teams
  • Assistant Coach and Parent Volunteer – Wiseburn Little League Teams

This same commitment to his community is why he serves on the Wiseburn Unified School District Board of Trustees and believes in prioritizing student success, creating opportunities and preserving a financially sound district.

Mr. Bañuelos holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Southern California (USC) in Civil Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix (UOP). In his professional career, he is the President of Element Consulting, a construction management company dedicated to improving learning environments for students in the education sector and has served on the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) Board of Directors in the capacity of Chairman of its Membership Committee.

The Wiseburn Unified School District Board of Trustees welcomed Michelle Legaspi, a seasoned educator and community leader, as a provisional member of the Board in January 2024. Mrs. Legaspi brings over two decades of experience in public education to her role on the Board. She has served as an elementary school teacher and teacher-leader within the Manhattan Beach Unified School District, having taught nearly all elementary grade levels over the past 22 years.

Her educational journey includes a Bachelor of Arts from Loyola Marymount University and a Master of Arts from California State Dominguez Hills. Beyond her educational roles, Mrs. Legaspi co-founded and operated a successful summer reading camp for more than two decades. She also owns and operates a local brewery with her family, demonstrating her entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to the local community.

Mrs. Legaspi has served on the executive boards of two non-profit organizations, Wiseburn Education Foundation and Haven Academy of the Arts. Mrs. Legaspi's passion for education and community service is further evidenced by her leadership roles, including serving as a co-chair of the Measure EE Bond initiative and participating in the Citizen's Bond Oversight Committee.

Mrs. Legaspi has two children who have progressed through the Wiseburn Unified School District from transitional kindergarten/kindergarten. Her daughter currently attends Da Vinci Science, while her son is a student at Wiseburn Middle School. During her children's time at Del Aire Elementary, she was an active member of the PTA executive board and has consistently engaged in initiatives that support community needs.

Her extensive experience as an educator and volunteer has honed her skills in fostering positive interpersonal relationships and effective communication. Her commitment to the Wiseburn community and her comprehensive experience in both education and community engagement make her an invaluable asset to the Board.

Mrs. Legaspi's appointment to the Board reflects her dedication to educational excellence and community involvement, and she looks forward to continuing her service in this new capacity.

Neil Goldman

Dr. Neil Goldman has served as a WUSD Governing Board Member since 2015. Neil comes from a family of educators, holds a doctorate degree in education, and believes among the greatest gifts we can give each child — and society — is a love of learning and the skills to succeed.

A 30-year resident of Del Aire, Neil has a rich history of involvement in the district. He chose the area because of our schools, his two daughters are Wiseburn alumni, and he continues to serve WUSD to give back and to deliver education that always improves.

Neil’s WUSD service roles have included:

  • Past President, WUSD Board of Trustees
  • Re-Founding President, Wiseburn Education Foundation
  • Co-Founder, Rock around the Block
  • Vice Chair, LCFA (local school district partnership)
  • Formative Research Consultant for Da Vinci Connect
  • Budget Review Committee member
  • Member of the Juan de Anza (Del Aire) Parent Advisory Council
  • Wiseburn High School Oversight Committee member
  • Wiseburn Unification Committee Member

Neil owns GCS, Inc., an organizational development and research company, and has consulted with over 500 organizations in 49 states nationwide. His professional work helped spearhead the development of WUSD’s Mission, Values, Vision and Assurances. Neil continues to spur innovation, to be a prudent steward of district finances, and to challenge and support our educators to inspire and best prepare our students for an evolving, and exciting, future world ahead.

Rebecca Hamburg-Cappy

The Wiseburn Unified School District Board of Trustees appointed Wiseburn resident Ms. Rebecca Hamburg-Cappy as a provisional member of the Board in February 2022. Prior to her appointment on the Board of Trustees, Ms. Hamburg-Cappy served in several prominent leadership roles across the District. Ms. Hamburg-Cappy is a long-time Board member of the Wiseburn Education Foundation, having served as the organization’s interim Executive Director, Vice President, Director of Fundraising, and Director of Community Relations over the past five years. She currently serves as the Wiseburn USD representative on the Southwest Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) Community Advisory Committee. This committee provides critical input on the development of a local plan for providing special education and related services for students with disabilities and their families in the 12 school districts and 16 charter schools serviced by the SELPA. In addition to her relevant community engagement, Ms. Hamburg-Cappy also brings her perspective as a parent to her role. She has two sons who are currently enrolled in Wiseburn elementary schools.

Ms. Hamburg-Cappy is an attorney and nonprofit executive. She is the Chief Network Officer for the California Donor Table, where she leads individual donor network strengthening and expansion as well as foundation engagement and alignment work for CDT and their related entities. Previously, she was the founder and principal consultant for Rebecca Hamburg Consulting, where she empowered nonprofits and foundations with the tools and knowledge to achieve their vision for a better world. Ms. Hamburg-Cappy served as the West Coast Director for Alliance for Justice and Program Director of the National Employment Lawyers Association. She also spent several years litigating cases on behalf of public and private employees around the country, as well as victims of civil and human rights abuses in the U.S. and around the world.

Ms. Hamburg-Cappy received her J.D. from The George Washington University Law School and her B.A. in political science (with honors) from the University of California, San Diego. She is an active member of the State Bar of California.
