Nelson Martinez · Member · 2005 - Present
Mr. Nelson Martinez has proudly served on the Wiseburn Unified School District Board of Trustees since 2005 and has twice had the honor of serving as Board President. A lifelong member of the Wiseburn community, Nelson attended Wiseburn schools, promoting from Anza Elementary School and Dana Middle School. Today, he considers it a true privilege to give back by serving the community that helped shape his educational journey.
For more than 20 years, Nelson has had the honor of serving the Wiseburn community as a Trustee. During that time, he has helped guide many of the District's most significant milestones, including district unification and the continued growth of Wiseburn's partnership with Da Vinci Schools. He was proud to be among the community leaders who helped establish Da Vinci Schools and has always believed the best decisions begin by asking one simple question: "What is in the best interest of our students?" That guiding principle has shaped his leadership throughout his years of service and reflects his deep appreciation for Wiseburn's rich history, continued growth, and bright future.
Nelson has always believed that some of the greatest opportunities to make a difference happen outside the boardroom. For many years, he volunteered as Head Coach for Aviation Little League, Wiseburn Little League, AYSO youth soccer, and Redondo Beach Youth Basketball (RBYB), helping young athletes develop confidence, teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership. He also served as Clerk of the Local Classroom Funding Authority and as a Governing Board Member of the Local Public Schools Funding Authority (LPSFA) advancing his commitment to public education. These experiences reaffirmed his belief that some of the most important lessons of life are learned through teamwork, character, perseverance, and service to others.
Professionally, Nelson serves as Executive Vice President of Element Consulting, Inc., where he provides executive leadership and strategic oversight for one of California's leading program and construction management firms specializing in educational facilities. For more than 30 years, he has partnered with school districts, colleges, architects, engineers, and construction professionals to help deliver safe, modern, and innovative learning environments throughout California. His experience in long-range facility planning, capital improvement programs, bond oversight, and the responsible stewardship of public resources enables him to bring practical leadership, thoughtful planning, and sound fiscal oversight to the Board.
Nelson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a Master of Science in Environmental Science from California State University, Northridge. He is a Certified Construction Manager (CCM) and a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP BD+C).
Nelson and his wife, Helen, have been married for more than 25 years and are proud parents of two sons who attended Wiseburn and Da Vinci Schools. Nelson believes Wiseburn's greatest strength has always been its people — its students, families, educators, staff, and community. He feels incredibly fortunate to give back to the district that has meant so much to him and his family and remains grateful for the opportunity to serve. Guided by integrity, collaboration, transparency, and a spirit of service, he is committed to helping ensure Wiseburn continues to provide outstanding educational opportunities to today's students and for generations to come.
