Learning Recovery Opportunity Program (LROP)
Helping Students Stay on Track While Absent

DECEMBER 22 - JANUARY 4
We are excited to launch the Wiseburn Winter Attendance Reset, a districtwide opportunity for students to complete Learning Recovery Opportunity Program (LROP) activities for any day they were absent this school year.
From December 22 through January 4 at 11:59 PM, the district is opening access to past LROP activities, allowing students to complete that work over winter break and enter 2026 with a clean attendance slate.
This effort also helps Wiseburn recover important state funding tied to attendance, allowing us to continue investing in the programs and supports our students rely on.
Prizes for Students
Elementary School
- Class Food Party: One class per grade level with the highest LROP completion will earn a special celebration (pizza, Yogurtland, or another treat).
- Extra Recess: Classes that meet a completion threshold will earn bonus recess time.
- Daily Rewards: Students will receive their school's regular positive-behavior currency — including SOAR Slips, Cub Cards, or BEST Slips — for each LROP day completed.
Middle School
- Pizza Parties for Top Pods: The top two pod classes per grade level with the highest LROP completion will win a pizza party.
- If more than two pods reach exceptional participation levels (such as 100%), all qualifying pods will earn a celebration.
- Please note: Middle school LROP is for attendance recovery only. It does not involve grading or revisiting old assignments, and teachers will not be asked to re-grade previous work.

What is the Learning Recovery Opportunity Program (LROP)?
The Learning Recovery Opportunity Program (LROP) allows students to receive instruction and attendance credit for missed school days when assigned work is completed. This is made possible by California Education Code Section 51747, which authorizes up to 15 instructional days per student, per academic year.
Participation in LROP does not change your child’s school enrollment—they remain fully enrolled in their classroom and school. The program is designed to maintain learning continuity during short-term absences (e.g., illness, grief/loss, or other anticipated reasons) while also allowing the District to recover state funding for those days.
How Does It Work?
- Students may participate for up to 15 school days per year.
- Participation is voluntary and available to all eligible students, including those entitled to educational services while suspended or expelled (under Ed Code Sections 48915 and 48917).
- LROP is not a substitute for regular in-person attendance and is intended for short-term absences only.
- Families must submit a Planned Absence Form in advance for anticipated absences.
- Instructional content is aligned to California State Standards and the WUSD curriculum. It mirrors the goals and rigor of classroom instruction.
- Students complete assignments through the District's learning platforms, SchoolsPLP and Canvas, or through LROP-approved materials provided by certificated staff.
- In some cases, teacher-provided instruction may also count toward LROP credit.
- The LROP Teacher will email parents/guardians with instructions for accessing and submitting assignments.
Why Sign Up?
- Keeps your child engaged in learning, even during absences
- Helps your child earn attendance credit for up to 15 missed days
- Supports your school by recovering state funding
- Provides flexibility for families during unplanned or planned absences
Program Requirements
- Signed LROP Agreement must be on file. Email LROPTeacher@wiseburn.org to find out if we have an agreement for your student.
- Students are expected to work independently and complete daily assignments for each day of absence.
- Assignments must be submitted within one calendar week of the absence.
- Attendance credit is only granted for days when assigned work is fully completed.
- A maximum of 15 attendance credit days can be earned per student, per school year.
- Work is reviewed by the LROP Teacher, who determines academic accomplishment.
- If a student misses three assignments, the District will evaluate whether continued participation in LROP is in the student’s best interest, unless otherwise documented.
- Additional assignments may be provided by classroom or subject teachers. The due date and expectations for this work will be communicated directly by the teacher.
Technology and Access
If your student does not have access to a device or internet connection, the District will provide the necessary resources to support LROP participation.
